UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities

The Australian Government has commissioned the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) to conduct a series of national consultations on United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with disabilities. The current rounds of consultations to be undertaken by People with Disabilities Australia (PWDA) are discussing the potential impact of the ratification of the convention to Australia and Australians living with disability.

The development of a United Nations convention on the human rights of people with disability is the most important development in the history of the international disability rights movement. It marks the final step in the transition towards understanding the needs and concerns of people with disability in terms of human rights.

People with disability, disability organisations and interested organisations are invited to be part in the latest rounds of consultations.
