AFDO is very excited to be holding its first national conference. The conference, which will be held on the 9th & 10th of October this year at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne. The conference will have a practical focus concentrating on key contemporary policy issues in the lives of Australians living with disability.

Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, Self-Directed Funding & real income support, Social Inclusion, Employment, affordable and adaptable housing, the built environment are just some of the topics the conference will be discussing. We are planning speakers and concurrent sessions with the view to developing realistic and practical recommendations on issues for a 'compilation of ideas' to be delivered to government.

The Telstra Dome located at Docklands in Melbourne was chosen as the venue as we believe that the Dome offers a range of benefits that will suit our perspective delegates. For Example, those traveling from interstate can make their own choice on accommodation with a wide range of options close to the venue that will cater for any budget and accessibility needs. The venue is also accessible by all forms of public transport.

It is envisaged that AFDO will look at holding a conference every second year making it a must attend event for people with disabilities, members and staff of non-government organisations, government staff and of course a platform for Politicians to discuss policy and listen to the voices from the sector.
