Productivity Commission Inquiry Into Disability Care and Support

In November 2009, the Federal Government announced a Productivity Commission inquiry into disability care and support. You can find out more about the inquiry by going to the Productivity Commission website.

Two things have led to this inquiry.

The National Disability and Carer's Alliance has been calling for a National Disability Insurance Scheme to make sure people with disability can get funding for supports. You can find out more about the Alliance and the Scheme by visiting the National Disability Insurance Scheme site.

There was also a report released by the Disability Investment Group which said there should be more work done to decide if a National Disability Insurance Scheme can be introduced. Their report can be found by following the link to the Disability Investment Group web page.

AFDO supports the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme. We believe that money for disability support raised through the insurance scheme should be given to people with disability directly, so they can decide what supports they need and how to get them. This funding would be called a Disability Inclusion Allowance. Find out more about the Disability Inclusion Allowance Campaign on our campaign page.
